Han Nefkens Foundation ARCO Prize in VideoArt

The objective of this award is to encourage and enliven contemporary artistic production in the field of video art.

The winner will receive the financing required to develop a final project over the course of a year, to be presented in an exhibition coinciding with ARCOmadrid 2019.

Barcelona, 23 Febreuary 2018. The Han Nefkens Foundation and ARCOmadrid have come together to organize an award to encourage production in video art, with the goal of further activating this artistic field. The Fundación Han Nefkens –ARCOmadrid Award is conceived to assist in consolidating and supporting the careers of young emerging artists with a promising character and a strong international profile. Furthermore, the award seeks to make this area of artmaking more accessible to all publics, as a further way of promoting the artistic discipline of video art. The winner, who will be chosen by a jury composed of members from the Han Nefkens Foundation, ARCOmadrid, representatives of various art institutions and an international expert in video art, will be announced on 23 February during the celebration of this year’s ARCOmadrid (21–25 February). The artist selected will receive the financing required to develop a video art project over the course of a year, which will be presented at an exhibition at La Casa Encendida, Madrid, coinciding with next year’s ARCOmadrid. Full details of the award will be presented at Fundació Antoni Tàpies, Barcelona, on 16 February by Han Nefkens, patron of the arts and founder of the foundation that bears his name. He will be joined by Hilde Teerlinck, president and curator of the Han Nefkens Foundation; César Castillo, executive director of the Han Nefkens Foundation; Carlos Urroz, director of ARCOmadrid; Rosa Lleó, curator of ARCOmadrid and expert in video art; and Eduardo López-Puertas, general director of Ifema, Trade Fair Institution of Madrid.
